Former Celtic striker, Moussa Dembele is close to joining Saudi Arabian Pro League outfit, Al Ettifaq.

67 Hail Hail discussed ten days ago how the Saudi club’s new manager, Steven Gerrard approached the former Celtic striker to convince him to join him but the priority at that time was tieing up the Jordan Henderson deal.

Now that deal with Henderson has all but been signed, Dembele looks on the verge of joining Henderson and Gerrard as the former Rangers manager looks to build his new-look squad according to transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano.

Romano tweeted this morning, “Al Ettifaq have reached agreement in principle to sign Moussa Dembélé as free agent.

“There are still some details to sort after Henderson deal almost completed but Dembélé is really close to joining Saudi league.”

At just 27 years old, Dembele is reaching his prime years and a move to the Saudi league may raise some eyebrows. But what is most surprising about this is the amount of time it has taken the talented Frenchman to find a new club.

At one point it was thought he was close to a move to the English Premier League but the speculation never materialised into anything concrete.

Dembele was a smash hit at Celtic. One of Brendan Rodgers’ first signings in his first outing as the Celtic manager,
the Frenchman wowed the Celtic support with his prowess in front of goal.

His 32 goals in 49 games helped Celtic to become Invincible Treble winners in his first season at the club. The next season, Dembele went on to score 16 in 39 as the Hoops went on to secure back-to-back Trebles.

Dembele then went on to seal a move to Lyon in the summer of 2018 and after five years at the club, his contract expired and he has been a free agent since the end of May this year.

Now that it looks like he will be playing his football under Gerrard, it will be interesting to see if the former Rangers manager can get Dembele back to his goalscoring best and looking like the player that we all watched terrorise the Ibrox club during his stay in Glasgow.
