Celtic fans have been feeling a sense of deep frustration over the lack of transfer business at Parkhead.

With Brendan Rodgers publicly telling the Celtic board that he needs new players for the Hoops first-team for the season ahead.

Despite Celtic’s win over Aberdeen, fans still know that the squad needs strengthening, especially with the Champions League play-off qualifier just around the corner.

And as fans wait for next transfer announcement, journalist Stephen McGowan appears to point fingers at people at Celtic who are responsible for the club’s stuttering transfer window.

Stephen McGowan says Celtic ‘money men don’t appear to trust’ the scouts

Celtic have clearly identified targets this summer. The ongoing Celtic transfer links show that there is no smoke without fire.

However, with the transfer window closing in three-weeks time and Rodgers still looking for reinforcements, what is the hold up at Celtic?

Journalist, Stephen McGowan appears to point the finger of blame to some people at Celtic.

In his article in The Herald, McGowan writes, “Fixated with securing ‘value for money’, offers of £1.5m, £1.75m plus add-ons then £3m went in for a player [Breum] valued somewhere between £5m and £6m.

“As yet, Breum is no closer to moving to Glasgow and he’s not the only player to be scouted, approved by the football department then vetoed by money men who don’t appear to trust their judgement.”

With no names mentioned, Celtic fans will instinctively look to the Parkhead board and wonder what exactly is going on at the club after this.

When the transfer window actually closes for Celtic

The summer transfer window usually slams shut on the final day of August each year.

However, in 2025 the rules have changed slightly.

The transfer window has been extended to the 1st of September and will officially close at 7pm.

This is to allow clubs, including Celtic, to get any late paperwork submitted in time for those last-minute deals that are inevitably agreed just before the usual midnight deadline.

With extra time on their hands, these ‘money men’ that McGowan speaks of had better not let the Celtic support down. The same support the club have been inundating with emails selling the recent merchandising products this summer.
