Former Celtic target Kasper Dolberg has been left out of Ajax’s pre-season training camp, but the reason for his omission has now emerged.

Ajax have named a 25-man squad for their training camp in Garderen, with the Danish striker among the players who did not travel.

Dolberg was one of the biggest names missing from the squad, but there is no suggestion his absence is linked to his future at the club.

Should Celtic try for Kasper Dolberg again?

How much would you pay for him?

Why ex-Celtic target Kasper Dolberg missed Ajax camp

Dolberg was linked with Celtic before he returned to Ajax as the Hoops searched for attacking reinforcements, although a move to Parkhead never materialised.

Ajax Life reports that the 28-year-old is carrying a minor injury and could still join the squad later in the training camp once he has recovered.

Rayane Bounida has also missed the trip because of a minor injury and could yet link up with the rest of the squad in the coming days.

Could Kasper Dolberg still come to Celtic?

As things stand, there are no reports suggesting Celtic are trying to sign Dolberg this summer.

When Celtic were linked with him previously, Dolberg was looking to kickstart his career away from Anderlecht.

If Martin O’Neill is looking for another striker this summer, then Dolberg is unlikely to be that as the capture of Camilo Duran nears.

Even if Ajax were willing to sell, Dolberg’s wages would likely be among the highest in Celtic’s squad. That would make a deal difficult unless the player was prepared to take a significant pay cut.
