Former Rangers man’s laughable Celtic fan claim doesn’t add up with questionable goal record

First it was Ally McCoist and now it’s the turn of former Rangers man Kemar Roofe to make a bizarre claim about Celtic supporters.

We told this morning how McCoist claimed Celtic fans ‘appreciated’ the fact that he only celebrated with Rangers supporters whenever he scored against the Parkhead club.

Call us cynical, but that’s the last thing Celtic fans will be thinking about whenever they watched McCoist hit the back of the net.

And now, Kemar Roofe is up next with a bizarre claim about what Celtic fans told him when they speak to him now that he has left Rangers.

Kemar Roofe claims Celtic fans ‘feared’ him at Rangers

Kemar Roofe played for Rangers for three seasons and faced Celtic ten times. We’ll get to his stats against the Parkhead club shortly but here is what he said about when Hoops fans meet him in the street.

Roofe told Undr The Cosh, “There’s no drama. I just want to win, do my best. And I think the fans do see that.

“Even Celtic fans, I’ve had Celtic fans come up to me and say, ‘We’ve always kind of feared you when we’ve seen you on the team sheet’.

“And for me, that’s so much respect. And I’m so grateful for that because as much as the rivalry is there, there’s still a bit of footballing respect there.”

Kemar Roofe’s Rangers record vs Celtic makes fan claim look very strange

There have been players that Rangers have had over the years that Celtic fans would worry about if they saw their name on a Glasgow Derby team sheet.

Off the top of our heads, Brian Laudrup would be one as would Ally McCoist in days gone by. But Roofe’s record against Celtic makes it difficult to make his claim add up:

An almost identical head to head record and a goal every five games doesn’t exactly scream Roofe was lethal against Celtic.

The two goals he did score was in a game during the COVID season where Celtic had utterly imploded.

Respect? Yeah, we can certainly see Celtic fans offering Roofe that, but fear? Somehow, we don’t think so.
