There are plenty of differing opinions about how Celtic’s transfer window went this summer.
Sebastian Tounekti was the only arrival on deadline day before Kelechi Iheanacho was announced the following day.
Celtic were far more active earlier in the window, signing the likes of Benjamin Nygren and Michel-Ange Balikwisha.
Other Scottish Premiership sides have strengthened too, with Aberdeen signing Stuart Armstrong, but there is one signing that a former Sweden international thinks the Dons have made who is better than Nygren.
Johan Larsson says Jesper Karlsson is better than Benjamin Nygren
Aberdeen raised eyebrows when they secured the most high-profile capture of the window by bringing Jesper Karlsson in on loan.
Karlsson signed from Bologna on deadline day and Eflsborg captain, and former Sweden international, Johan Larsson admitted he was surprised that the winger didn’t join Celtic or Rangers, while also claiming he is better than his international counterpart.
“With all respect to Aberdeen, if you said he was going to Scotland you would think it would be to Celtic or Rangers,” he told the Scottish Sun.
“I can’t say I know everything about the transfers in Scotland this summer, but he has to be one of the best ones.
“I know Benjamin Nygren has been a big asset to Celtic, but Jesper Karlsson has more than his level in himself.
“Do I think he’s better? For sure, yeah. I’d pick Jesper.”
Celtic may have missed the boat on a real talent
The incoming Dons winger was never on Celtic’s radar but would’ve been a great addition to the ranks.
Wingers were on the shopping list for Brendan Rodgers and, after plenty of concern, managed to bring two in to the club.
Balikwisha and Tounekti will need time to settle in, but look like players that will get fans off their seats and excite.
However, if Karlsson does impress, there will be a feeling of ‘what if’.
