Celtic will be without a few big hitters as pre-season begins in Ireland on Tuesday.

The likes of Daizen Maeda, Alistair Johnston, Auston Trusty, and Benjamin Nygren, to name a few, are still resting after their World Cup adventures.

While the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho haven’t been re-signed after Celtic’s domestic double success last term, so expect to see a few new and young faces in pre-season, even if Frank McAvennie thinks it’s all for nothing.

The former striker told his Let Me Be Frank YouTube channel about how Celtic’s young guns will be given a chance in pre-season, and that’s it.

Celtic won’t see the youngsters again when the new season starts

“You will see the youngsters (in pre-season),” said McAvennie. “Then they will look good, but you won’t see them again when the season starts.”

Colby Donovan is an example to all

Last season, amid the chaos and drama at Celtic, including three different managers taking to the dugout, Colby Donovan had a breakthrough campaign.

But it didn’t come naturally, and it was forced.

Only because of Alistair Johnston’s injury was Donovan pushed forward, yet look at how he performed amid the instability around him.

Donovan is an example of how Celtic have some top talent in their academy, but they probably won’t be handed a proper chance next term.

McAvennie is right, you will see these young faces shine in pre-season, and then they won’t even make the matchday squad once the season starts.

All while watching some big money signings flop, flop and flop again!

Two of them will probably include Jude Bonnar and Kyle Ure, who were lauded and applauded while on loan with Celtic legend Scott Brown at Ayr United last season.
