Gabby Agbonlahor speaks Celtic mad Alan Brazil’s language as he predicts how Bhoys would fare in the Europa League

Gabby Agbonlahor is firmly in Alan Brazil’s good books after agreeing with how Celtic would’ve fared in this season’s Europa League.

Celtic were part of the elite in the Champions League and enjoyed a successful League Phase before losing to Bayern Munich in the very last seconds.

It was the Bhoys’ best European campaign for some time and on top of their potential Treble-winning season from a domestic point of view, something to look back on with pride.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will be in the Champions League again next season but will start from the play-off round to guarantee their spot in the main competition.

Failure to win would mean a spot in the Europa League, where less competition could mean a better chance of winning, and Agbonlahor and Brazil think the Hoops would go far.

Gabby Agbonlahor and Alan Brazil think Celtic would get to the semi-finals of the Europa League

As Celtic dined in the Champions League, their Glasgow neighbours Rangers were competing in the Europa League.

They reached the quarter finals only to be beaten by Athletic Club, whose fans sported Celtic shirts when playing against them.

Discussing how Celtic would fare, lifelong Hoops fan Brazil agreed with Agbonlahor that if the Bhoys were in the Europa League this season, they’d have reached the last four.

Speaking on the TalkSport breakfast show about it, the former Aston Villa striker asked: “Do you think Celtic would have been more equipped for a Europa League run like Rangers have been? Celtic would get to a semi-final of the Europa League.”

Brazil replied with a one-word answer of “yes” before he added: “The Champions League is tough but you want to be in with the big boys.”

Agbonlahor then posited the idea that the Hoops could easily match, maybe better, what Rangers did.

“Look at the runs Rangers have had in the Europa League. Imagine what Celtic could do in that competition…” said the pundit.

How Celtic have performed in Europe since 2020

Right now, Celtic look streets ahead of what Rangers are domestically, but even the most diehard of supporters can admit that they’ve been the better of the two teams in Europe.

The run to the play-off round this season was the best for some while, but in recent times, it’s been a damp squib on the continent.

Celtic’s European run

It’s been three years since the Hoops last played in the Europa League and they failed miserably, crashing out in the group stage after a horrendous Champions League campaign.

Of course, the squad has a whole new look to it and is far better now, but, if Celtic were to reach the semi-finals of Europe’s second tier competition, they’d have to do a lot better.
