The Celtic fan songbook is still in the spotlight as they made their voices heard over the Kieran Tierney/Brendan Rodgers controversy against Dundee United last night.
Celtic cruised to a 2-0 win over United in a freezing night at Parkhead to go 16 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
However, the game’s buildup was dominated by Brendan Rodgers’ criticism of the Celtic supporters after he said the songs being sung about Kieran Tierney were ‘disrespectful’ to fullback Greg Taylor.
The Celtic supporters bit back at Rodgers last night as they gave a rendition of the old Hoops hero songbook which included chants about Henrik Larsson, ‘Jota on the Wing’ and Artur Borcuc to name but a few.
Talking up the Hoops support, Celtic TV’s Peter Grant praised the Celtic fans for their support of the team on a freezing night in Glasgow as Gerry McCulloch references the songbook in their post-match analysis.
Why Peter Grant gave Celtic supporters ‘great credit’ vs Dundee United
Grant said on Celtic TV, “Listen, we’ve got to give the supporters great credit as well tonight. They were brilliant at lifting the team and never stopped singing throughout.
“It’s not easy and on a really freezing cold night so they all responded to each other and that team’s gonna have them great things to shout about and long may it continue.”
McCulloch: “But I heard there was a lot of Celtic legends getting sung about with the fans tonight. I didn’t hear a Peter Grant song?”
Grant: “I was singing it myself.”
McCulloch: “Was it a Peter Grant song?”
Grant: “I’m saying nothing. Aye, it was BOO!”
What Brendan Rodgers said about the Celtic supporters’ songbook
Clearly making a point to Rodgers, the Celtic fans at the game sang whatever song pleased them but the Hoops boss took it all in good fun.
Rodgers said of the Celtic fans, “The kit man, he was the only one that missed out, I think, tonight,” the Hoops manager laughed.

“But, yes, it’s all part of the dance here, isn’t it? My job is to put the best team on the pitch and win consistently, and everyone can smile.”
The line has been drawn under the issue by the fans and the Celtic boss now and that should be the end of that.
The bigger picture now is that Celtic are 16 points clear at the top of the table and all the pressure is now on Rangers as they head to Dundee off the back of bottling it at Hibs.
Any further dropped points will put immense pressure on Philippe Clement at the halfway point of the season.
