Giorgos Giakoumakis is certainly creating a strong impression at his new club, Atlanta United. The big Greek created history by becoming only the second player in MLS history to score a goal in his first five starts for the club.

And it is clear his new club are loving him after his goalscoring exploits last night.

Giakoumakis came on as a second-half substitution for Atlanta during last night’s 4-0 win over the Colorado Rapids.

The Greek striker was returning from a hamstring injury that has kept him out since the 23rd of April and didn’t he just mark it with this stunning strike in the final minute of the game.

Not long after adopting one of the Celtic supporter’s songs for Giakoumakis, the club have now dubbed him their ‘Tank’, presumably in reference to his incredible physique.

The Celtic fans are all too aware of that as his famous goal celebration in the Viaplay Cup Final against Kilmarnock showed. After scoring Celtic’s second, Giakoumakis whipped off his shirt to reveal a physique that helped bully opposition defences in Scotland.

Giakoumakis’ goals have helped to keep Atlanta in touching distance at the top of the Eastern Conference league. They are just six points behind the leaders, Cincinnati albeit with one more game under their belts.

But there is more good news for Giakoumakis. Due to his appearances for Celtic in the first half of the season, the striker will be due a league winners medal. He can add it to the one he won last season with Celtic and with AEK Athens in 2018.

If he keeps up his current goalscoring for Atlanta then, hopefully, another championship-winning medal won’t be too far off for him.
