There has been unnecessary noise around Celtic’s backroom staff as preparations begin for the 2026/27 season.
Not only did Celtic take their time to appoint Martin O’Neill officially, but you have also had the situation around the backroom staff and ‘wage cuts’ being offered.
Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham played an underrated role as Celtic won the double last season, but with rumours they have been offered ‘pay cuts’ to extend their stay in Glasgow, you have to question if they are being valued by the powers that be.
From a player’s perspective, Greg Taylor, who joined PAOK last summer on a free transfer, sent a clear message to the board about how valuable the likes of Maloney and Fotheringham could be to the team’s ‘continuity.’
“I think continuity will be important in a summer that could see a lot of change at Celtic,” said Taylor. “There are a lot of players coming back from loan. There will be new players coming in.
“I think getting them two back (Maloney and Fotheringham) will be pretty vital for that staff.”

Greg Taylor hails Celtic’s backroom staff
For those of you who don’t know, the 2026 summer transfer window opened on Monday, but never mind Celtic bringing in players, they haven’t got their backroom staff sorted yet.
It sums up the Celtic board, their lack of pro-active nature, and why fans protest so much.
Even with a legend like O’Neill in the building, maintaining Celtic’s trophy success, they are still doing things their own lethargic way and the wrong way.
With the domestic campaign over, Taylor is back in Scotland for the summer, and he was doing punditry work for Clyde 1.
As expected, the topic of Celtic was going to be brought up, as Taylor lauded those behind the scenes, including the less-talked-about Gavin Strachan and Stephen McManus
“I think continuity will be important in a summer that could see a lot of change at Celtic,” said Taylor. “There are a lot of players coming back from loan. There will be new players coming in.
“I think getting them two back (Maloney and Fotheringham) will be pretty vital for that staff. There are already amazing guys in the building. Guys like Gavin Strachan and Stephen McManus.
“So, they have them coaches there. But I think Martin would be desperate to get the other two guys back.”
