Benjamin Nygren is settling in to life as a Celtic player.

The Swede made a £2m switch from FC Nordsjælland and made an impressive debut against Estrela da Amadora on Saturday.

Brendan Rodgers is ‘really excited’ about Nygren and what he can offer Celtic this season, while Viljami Sinisalo has been talking up his fellow Scandinavian in recent days.

Now, Nygren has sat down to speak on the Official Celtic FC Podcast to discuss moving to Celtic, his early playing days, and what it took to get him to this point in his career.

Nygren on Callum McGregor and James Forrest

Nygren is currently in Lisbon with the rest of his Celtic teammates as they prepare to play Sporting CP on Wednesday night, the last game of their Portugal training camp.

Of course, he’s now rubbing shoulders with the likes of Celtic captain Callum McGregor and legendary winger James Forrest.

McGregor and Forrest are two of Celtic’s most decorated players ever with a combined 50 major trophies won across their time at the club.

And for Nygren, he feels that winning mentality is something he can take from the pair as he begins his journey with Celtic.

Nygren said: “For sure. They have won a lot of titles. I haven’t, but hopefully I will in my career. So to have guys like that surrounded around me is very good and I can learn a lot from them.”

McGregor can surpass Bobby Lennox this season

McGregor had the opportunity to move onto 25 major trophies won with Celtic against Aberdeen in May’s Scottish Cup final.

That would have moved him level with Bobby Lennox, the legendary Lisbon Lion who won the European Cup, 11 league titles, eight Scottish Cups and five League Cups.

But Aberdeen agonisingly delayed that feat for McGregor. However, he will have three opportunities this season to equal and then perhaps surpass Lennox.

For Forrest, if Celtic win the Treble at the end of the 2025/26 season, that would take him to 29 major trophies won, with McGregor on 27.
