Ally McCoist is not one to hide which mast he nails his colours to whenever he talks about Celtic or Rangers.

So far this morning McCoist has already moaned about how people view Celtic and Rangers after Russell Martin’s sacking at the weekend.

Dropping points at Falkirk made the former Rangers striker claim that people say the league is already over before it starts due to the financial power of Celtic and the Ibrox club.

However, as Hearts have shown, there could be a challenge to Celtic and it appears to hurt McCoist that his old team are not in it.

Ally McCoist can’t help talking about Celtic after Rangers sack Russell Martin

McCoist is clearly hurting over the state of Rangers when he was speaking about the sacking of Russell Martin when he said that he wouldn’t dismiss Hearts’ challenge to Celtic because of what Aberdeen did last season.

However, speaking about Martin and Rangers’ demise, McCoist said he’s not ‘trying to drag Celtic’ into his pain about the state of his old club and Scottish football in general.

McCoist said on talkSPORT, “It would be completely wrong of me to dismiss clubs like Hearts, because it’s happened before.

“I mean, we saw it last year. Aberdeen, for example, had an unbelievable start to win their first 12 including a draw at Celtic Park. And there has been occasions during my playing career where Hearts could have and should have won the league. Aberdeen could have won the league last season.

“Specifically, we’re talking about Rangers at this moment in time. And so we should, but the standard of the Old F-rm generally, has dropped incredibly.

“And I’m not trying to drag Celtic into this, but the Celtic fans and the protests they’ve had, will tell you that they’re not happy.

“I’m just so worried about the standard. Hearts have been a breath of fresh air and Motherwell were a little bit unlucky yesterday as well.”

Celtic’s trophy haul is at the centre of McCoist’s Rangers pain

Celtic have been dominant in Scottish football for most of my adult life and it seems that this could continue for a wee while longer.

Since 2000 Celtic’s trophy haul swelled to the tune of 120 major honours overtaking Rangers pre and post 2012 record to become Scotland’s most successful club.

Since 2012, Rangers have won just one league title, one Scottish Cup and one League Cup as Celtic’s dominance remains unchallenged.

It’s no wonder McCoist can’t help bringing in his wee digs at Celtic because Rangers’ trophy-winning record is just woeful.
