It was another entertaining weekend for Celtic and Rangers.
Celtic left it late to beat Motherwell, whilst at the same time, Rangers failed to beat Falkirk, and that then resulted in Russell Martin getting sacked.
Martin has been booted out of Ibrox, with Rangers sitting eighth in the Premiership table, nine points behind the champions of Scotland, and 11 points behind current leaders, Hearts.
Every summer, there is a lot of talk about what Rangers might do to stop Celtic’s dominance, but it has already been halted before the Christmas lights have even been put up.

Ally McCoist on Celtic and Rangers expectations after Russell Martin’s sacking
Ally McCoist stated on talkSPORT that Martin’s sacking ‘wouldn’t be a shock to anybody’, as he feels the new Rangers owners have ‘underestimated’ the task at hand.
The former striker wanted to point out that people feel winning at clubs like Celtic and Rangers is easy, but he wanted to make it clear that ‘it’s more difficult than that.’
That’s why Celtic have lifted trophy after trophy, and Rangers continue to struggle.
“First thing I would say is that the scenes were unsavoury,” said McCoist. “I don’t think that did anyone any favours.
“However, the sacking of Russell Martin wouldn’t be a shock to anybody. Do you know, we are sitting eighth in the table. I am going to check it. I think we have a negative goal difference. There is no surprise at all.
“I think the new owners, and certainly the old management staff, probably underestimated the size of the job and the task.
“I think there are a lot of people who maybe just looked at Scottish football, ‘oh, Rangers and Celtic will win their games, and that’s it. Finished. Because that’s what they do.’
“But football is a lot more difficult than that. A lot harder than that. That aligned to really poor business in the transfer market – but the players have got to take some of the responsibility.”
Celtic and Rangers’ domestic trophies since 2000
Just after the turn of the century, Celtic lifted the Treble under the great Martin O’Neill, and it came soon after Rangers’ own dominant period in Scottish football.
But since then, a lot has changed, and it has been one-way traffic in Glasgow.
Celtic have won more Trebles during the last decade than Rangers have Premiership titles, as well as dominating major honours in the last 25 years.
- Celtic: 42 trophies
- Rangers: 18 trophies
