Celtic midfielder Arne Engels is said to be happy at Celtic with Martin O’Neill playing a huge factor in his decision to stay at the club.

RB Leipzig want the Celtic midfielder as the Bundesliga club added Engels to a transfer shortlist this January.

Engels has been suffering from a lack of form this season at Celtic, but under Martin O’Neill’s two interim spells, the Belgian has found his spark.

Can Celtic afford to sell Arne Engels?

The opportunity to return to the Bundesliga surely must have been tempting for Engels, especially to a club like Leipzig, right?

Not according to Anthony Joseph, who reveals how Engels is really feeling at Celtic and how O’Neill has played a huge part in his decision to stay in Glasgow.

Anthony Joseph’s Arne Engels update is great news for Celtic fans

Engels is Celtic’s record signing after the Parkhead club splashed £11m to get him from Augsburg. And after 18 months, the Belgian is already attracting attention from Europe’s top clubs.

But that doesn’t matter as Joseph reveals Engels is ‘happy at Celtic’ right now.

Joseph said on X, “Celtic midfielder Arne Engels is likely to stay despite interest from Germany.

“RB Leipzig enquired, but it’s understood Engels is happy at Celtic & wants to help the club retain the title.

“Engels is also believed to be really enjoying working under Martin O’Neill & his staff.”

Arne Engels’ stats show he’s paid Celtic back the £11m transfer fee

Engels is unfairly criticised because of the £11m fee Celtic paid for him back in the summer of 2024. That was not the player’s fault.

As many people get hung up on the price-tag, we take a look at Engels’ numbers which prove he is worth every penny Celtic have paid.

At just 22, Engels has plenty of developing still to do, and let’s be honest, he was bought as a development player.

And when the time comes for Celtic to sell, they will get more than the £11m first shelled out for the utility man.
