1937 – Celtic 2-1 Aberdeen

The first of the Scottish Cup finals involving the two teams was in 1937, with Celtic coming out on top in a 2-1 win.

Goals from Johnny Crum and Willie Buchan secured the win for the Bhoys at Hampden Park which, on that day, saw a European record domestic crowd of 147,365.

1954 – Celtic 2-1 Aberdeen

One week after Celtic ended a 16-year wait to win a league title, they followed that up with a second win against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final.

It took 50 minutes for the deadlock to be broken after Alec Young deflected Neilly Mochan’s effort into the back of the net. The lead didn’t last long though, as Paddy Buckley equalised a minute later.

In the end, Celtic were able to find the winner as Sean Fallon was on hand to tuck the ball home and claim a famous win.

Of course, 1967 is known for the famous Lisbon Lions team that won the European Cup but before that, Jock Stein’s men were crowned as Scottish Cup champions.

A brace from Willie Wallace was the difference between the two teams and made it three wins out of three for Celtic in finals against Aberdeen.

1970 – Aberdeen 3-1 Celtic

This would be the first time that the Bhoys ended up on the losing end of the final when facing Aberdeen.

Bobby Lennox scored an 89th minute goal to make it 2-1, but it wasn’t enough as Derek McKay bagged his second of the afternoon, with Joe Harper’s penalty the catalyst to the opposition’s victory.

1984 – Aberdeen 2-1 Celtic (A.E.T)

Celtic couldn’t get revenge 14 years on as defending champions Aberdeen retained their crown in the 99th Scottish Cup final.

Paul McStay’s 89th minute equaliser cancelled out Eric Black’s opener and took the game to extra time.

Despite having the momentum, it wasn’t to be and Mark McGhee’s goal in the 98th minute ensured a third straight Scottish Cup final win for Aberdeen in a period of dominance for the club from Pittodrie.

1990 – Aberdeen 0-0 Celtic (Aberdeen win 9-8 on penalties)

It was more disappointment for Celtic in 1990 on their 45th Scottish Cup final appearance as they were beaten once again.

Future Hoops striker Charlie Nicholas scored to take the penalty shootout to sudden death and in the end Celtic couldn’t hold their nerve as Anton Rogan missed the decisive spot kick, allowing Brian Irvine to step up and dispatch from 12 yards.

2017 – Celtic 2-1 Aberdeen

Perhaps the best Scottish Cup final in recent memory for Celtic.

In Rodgers’ first season as Celtic manager, an unbeaten league campaign and Scottish League Cup victory left the Bhoys on the verge of an incredible season.

At first it looked as if it wouldn’t go to plan as Aberdeen took the lead, but Celtic fought back with Stuart Armstrong’s strike.

Extra time was looming and the fear of every Celtic fan inside a soaking Hampden Park was evident to see but Tom Rogic chose to take matters into his own hands, charging on a marauding run before slamming the ball home and securing an incredible Treble.
