Julian Araujo’s injury has come in an untimely fashion for Celtic and Mexico.

Celtic are struggling on the domestic scene and are in this three-way Premiership title tussle in Scotland, while his home country is preparing for the upcoming 2026 World Cup this summer.

Following Celtic’s dramatic Scottish Cup win over Rangers at Ibrox, Araujo hasn’t featured, and he has returned to his parent club, Bournemouth, to get treatment.

In Scotland, the reporting around Araujo has had a touch of confusion to it, because many are questioning whether he will officially return to Glasgow before the season is out.

But this is how several outlets in Mexico have reacted to the former Barcelona man’s injury situation.

Will Araujo return to Celtic for the title run in?

Or are we reading too much into this?

Mexican outlets express concern over Julian Araujo’s Celtic injury

It was Wilfried Nancy who signed Araujo in January on a loan deal from Bournemouth, and one of his main purposes was to get fit and find some much-needed rhythm going into the 2026 World Cup.

You might not have noticed it with Donald Trump and the United States of America hogging all the headlines, but Mexico are co-hosting world football’s biggest event, alongside Canada.

That’s why it isn’t a surprise that Mexican outlet Mediotiempo questioned whether Araujo will ‘miss the 2026 World Cup?’

They cited ‘European press’ and how one of their star players is set to be out for ‘several weeks’, which would be welcome by Celtic and his own national side.

But it isn’t a surprise that Mediotiempo noted the all-action fullback’s injury as ‘bad news’ for Mexico.

Another outlet from Mexico, Telemundo, also went down the World Cup route and how Araujo’s injury has ‘raised an alarm’ back home.

They noted how the Celtic man will miss this current March international break, which, for most, is a bunch of friendly matches in preparation for the main event.

Telemundo also described it as a ‘significant setback’, as many still wonder the extent of Araujo’s issues, and just how much he can play before the season is out.

Meanwhile, Estadio just played it straight by reporting what has happened and how the player in question has ‘returned to Bournemouth’ for treatment.
