Celtic are out of the Champions League after a fantastic campaign that saw them reach the knockout phase play-offs.
It was the first time in 12 years that the Hoops played in a two-legged Champions League knockout match as they fell agonisingly to Bayern Munich on aggregate.
Celtic lost 2-1 in the first leg before putting in one of their best European away performances in recent memory at the Allianz Arena.
They secured a 1-1 draw but came so close to taking the Bundesliga giants to extra-time. However, Alphonso Davies’ 94th minute equaliser granted Bayern Munich progression.
At the start of the league phase campaign in September, 67 Hail Hail explained how much Celtic could earn in UEFA prize money this season.
And quite frankly, the total we predicted is very close to the actual figure calculated after Celtic’s exit from the Champions League on Tuesday night.
So below, we have explained how much prize money Celtic earned from their 2024/25 Champions League adventure.

Celtic’s 2024/25 Champions League earnings breakdwon
UEFA offer prize money to Champions League clubs via three different revenue streams.
Celtic have earned an equal participation fee while also taking a share each from the performance-related amounts and value pillar pots.
Equal participation fee
The Hoops banked €18.62m simply for taking part in the league phase of the Champions League this season.
It is split into a down-payment of €17.87m and a balance of €750k.
Performance-related amounts
UEFA dished out cash bonuses for wins and draws across the league phase, as well as extras for where clubs finish in the table and progression to the knockout phase play-offs or last 16.
Celtic earned €2.1m per win and €700k per draw in the league phase. Given Celtic won three and drew three, the club raked in €8.4m.
With those results, the Bhoys finished 21st in the league phase table and that placing delivered €4.4m.
And since 21st guaranteed Celtic passage to the knockout phase play-offs, they received an extra €1m.
In total, Celtic will actually take €14.1m home in performance-related amounts because UEFA state that “any savings from draws in the league phase will proportionally increase the initial value of the shares distributed to each position.”
Value pillar
UEFA’s value pillar pot is divided into two sections, the European part and a non-European part. How much Celtic earned from the European part depended on two elements:
- Scotland’s contribution to UEFA’s media & broadcasting revenue
- Celtic’s five-year UEFA coefficient ranking
And Celtic’s share of the non-European part was determined by:
- Celtic’s 10-year UEFA coefficient ranking
Thanks to the great work of the Scotland’s Coefficient account on X, it is understood Celtic have received €9.6m from the European part and €3.84m from the non-European part.
In total, Celtic have earned €13.44m from the two value pillar parts.
Total prize money earned by Celtic
Celtic were beaten 3-2 on aggregate by Bayern Munich in the knockout phase play-offs despite earning a fantastic 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena in the second leg.
It means in total, Celtic exit the 2024/25 Champions League having earned €46.16m in prize money from UEFA, which equates to around £38.22m.
And that doesn’t even factor in ticket sales and commercial income earned from matchdays, so the total is likely to be over £50m.
