Celtic beat Rangers. Rinse and Repeat. Celtic beat Rangers in a final. Rinse and repeat.
Some things never change and Brendan Rodgers’ side proved that on a dramatic day of action at Hampden on Sunday.
Celtic’s penalty shootout win over Rangers in the League Cup final had it all and perhaps delivered in a way that not many fans expected.
Before a ball was kicked, the fans would have accepted any type of win, as long as it was Callum McGregor lifting the trophy at the end of it all.
Whilst McGregor was lifting the League Cup, it only came after an action-packed 3-3 draw and then a nerve-racking penalty shootout.
When Daizen Maeda’s winning penalty hit the back of the net, you can imagine the scenes in the stands and on the pitch.
Celtic’s trophy presentation was delayed for that reason, but the reactions, far and wide, started to flood in from across the world.

Christopher Jullien, Trevor Sinclair, Rocco Vata and Joe Ledley react to Celtic beating Rangers
Most of these players represented Celtic during their careers, so they understand the importance of repping the badge and the pressure that comes with it.
Rocco Vata only left Celtic this summer and he posted a raised hands and trophy emoji via his Instagram story when reacting to the win.
Joe Ledley simply stated on his IG story ‘get in’, with Trevor Sinclair hailing goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel on Twitter for his penalty shootout heroics and Christopher Jullien also posting on his IG story a fire, four leaf clover and praying hands emoji.
Pitchside view of Kasper Schmeichel’s penalty save and Diazen Maeda’s winning penalty
These are moments Celtic fans will replay in their heads again and again.
In the end, the manner in which the team played, especially in the first half, and then the game going to penalties, was all worth it and perhaps the best way to do it.
Premier Sports captured a pitchside view of two crucial moments that will live long in the memory of everyone involved with Celtic.
