Hugh Keevins stands by Celtic title prediction despite being called out

Hugh Keevins has stood by his claim that there is zero-percent chance of Celtic winning the title this season.

That’s despite being proven wrong by the Hoops on more than one occasion this campaign, erroneously backing them for defeats against Hearts and Rangers.

As we enter the split after Celtic’s 1-0 win over St Mirren, the journalist turned radio pundit has doubled down on a prediction that is simply daft even if Martin O’Neill’s side don’t win the league.

When someone so routinely goes against one particular club, despite each of the Scottish Premiership’s top-three being far from perfect, it’s only to be expected that they end up getting ridiculed.

How many points will we pick up?

Hugh Keevins claims ‘zero percent’ chance of Celtic winning title

Keevins said on Clyde Superscoreboard: “I don’t believe Celtic can win the title because of the lack of a goalscorer.

“I do believe that when Rangers and Hearts go to Celtic Park, there’s more chance of them winning the matches because of Celtic’s utter lack of a striker.

“If I had a choice tomorrow between Yousssef Chermiti and Tomas Cvancara, I would take Chermiti.

“They are both the same, in that they require a lot of chances to score. But if Tomas Cvancara is your best chance of winning the league, you’ve had it.

“I know that Gordon Dalziel is going to go on about Benjamin Nygren, but he didn’t score today, he didn’t score last week…”

Presenter Andrew McLean then interrupted to remind Keevins that Nygren remains the second-top goalscorer in the league.

Asked what percentage chance he would give Celtic of winning the league, Keevins said: “I’m still on zero, yeah.

“The essence of this programme is personal opinion. You can berate, you can gang up, you can do whatever you like.

“I said zero, I stand by zero.”

Hugh Keevins’ dreadful Celtic predictions

In both of Celtic’s trips to Ibrox in March, Keevins tipped them for defeat. In both of their trips to Tynecastle this season, he tipped them for defeat (once correctly, to his credit…)

At this point, the repetition of his predictions has become a running joke on the show.

Keevins also backed Motherwell to beat Celtic on their visit to Glasgow last month, another one that flew in his face.

The Hoops have a golden opportunity to hand him one of his biggest ever slices of humble pie.
