Benjamin Nygren is expected to sign for Celtic soon.

The move has been spoken about for weeks and after Fabrizio Romano announced Celtic have agreed a deal with Nygren last week, fans have been waiting on a big reveal.

Journalist Roger Hannah said Celtic will announce Nygren around about the 1st of July, but what exactly is holding up the deal?

It appears that there is a red tape matter needing to be attended to before Celtic can formally announce Benjamin Nygren’s Parkhead arrival and the Hoops must attend a hearing to sort it out.

When Benjamin Nygren’s work permit hearing is prior to Celtic move

It appears that EU rules mean Nygren has to apply for a work permit to play for Celtic. Journalist Scott Burns has shared the hearing date and how hard it will be for the Hoops to overcome this obstacle.

Burns told the Daily Record transfer Q&A, “I believe there is a work permit hearing today. I’m not sure if Nygren is up or not.

“His work visa would be a formality because he is a full international and was playing in Denmark. Celtic players are back tomorrow.

“I would be surprised if there was confirmation over the next 24 to 48 hours.”

So just how good is Nygren and are Celtic getting a player who will get fans excited? Former Celtic defender Marc Rieper spilled the beans last week.

Rieper said, “I think Celtic have done really well to sign Nygren. I have actually been a bit surprised that Nordsjaelland have been able to keep him for so long.

“His contract was close to running out so they couldn’t wait and let him go for free. They opted to keep him last season when there was some interest and try to get in the top six.

“They managed that. Now it’s time for him to move on. Nygren was in the top seven or eight goal scorers in the Danish league last season. He has a good technique from distance.

“As a winger he goes past people because he has pace. He has good skills with the ball and is a really neat passer, good at making connections with other players. He’s an exciting player. I think the Celtic fans will really like him.”
