‘I was very worried’ – Yang shares what he ‘lacked’ at Celtic and where he has put the work in

It has been a decent season for Yang at Celtic who has taken his time to establish himself in Glasgow.

The winger had been a bit-part player for Brendan Rodgers before this term where he has managed five goals and six assists from 28 appearances.

Yang has been the ideal super-sub as described by one pundit having come on in big games including vs Bayern Munich where he created chances and looked impressive as Owen Hargreaves suggested Yang changed the match.

Yang also chipped in with two vital goals against St Mirren in Celtic’s 5-2 victory over the Buddies in Paisley in a match where manager Brendan Rodgers explained why Yang has thrived in recent weeks.

Yang says he has improved elements of his game as a Celtic star

The 22-year-old has since earned a well-deserved call-up to the South Korean national team under boss Hong Myung-bo and the winger has now explained where he feels he has come on leaps and bounds at Celtic Park compared to when he started.

“I think my strength is more offensive dribbling skills,” Yang tells Korea Joongang Daily. “I think I’ve become a mentally stronger player.

“I lacked a lot of factors, but I feel like I complemented those, although it is still not enough.

“I did a lot of core muscle training and built muscles to compete in a physically challenging league.”

What Yang was ‘worried about’ at Celtic

Yang had been passed over more than once by the national gaffer in recent times but he is relieved to finally be back in the squad in a bid to add to his three career caps so far.

It had become a “worry” for the playmaker that he was not being involved at that level.

For matches against Oman and Jordan next week, Yang will be in and around the squad and will certainly have the desire to feature on the pitch for his country. But he wasn’t always convinced he would be able to.

“I was very worried a couple of months ago, but manager Hong coming to see me [in Scotland] made me think that he does watch me, which motivated me to work hard,” he added.
