Talk for the new 2025/26 Premiership campaign has already started.

Brendan Rodgers knows that Celtic’s title defence starts at home to St Mirren, and the first away trip is against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

The first Glasgow derby of the season is on August 31 at Ibrox, as Rangers have made many changes over the summer.

Celtic’s dominance in Scotland has forced the Gers to bring in a new manager, and Russell Martin is the new man in the dugout, as well as new investment and faces at the top.

One man brought into the Rangers boardroom this summer is new chairman Andrew Cavenagh, and he spoke about Celtic after their EGM on Monday.

Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh on catching Celtic

Celtic finished 17 points clear of Rangers last season, as the Bhoys narrowly missed out on the Treble after losing the Scottish Cup final to Aberdeen.

Rangers’ new chairman thinks it’s ‘achievable’ to catch those sitting at the top of Scottish football, and told his supporters that they are ‘impatient’.

As posted by Sky Sports, Cavenagh was asked about trying to catch Celtic, and he spoke with a lot of confidence.

“We relish that challenge. We are impatient, we are competitive, and so we look forward to the challenge,” said Cavenagh.

“We think it is achievable, or we wouldn’t be here [to make Rangers the top team in Scotland].

“We don’t think it will be easy. It is not going to happen instantaneously, but we will strive to improve the on-field performance, and we will continue to build the infrastructure of the club. If we didn’t think we could win, we wouldn’t be here. We are here because we think we can.

“There is real work to be done, I think everyone is aware of that. Paraag and I, we share our supporters’ sense of urgency. We are in with both feet today, and we will move this forward as fast as we can.

How far away he thinks Rangers are from realising their full potential: “I would give you the simple answer, which is we have been finishing second, and we would like to finish first. We are one position away from where we would like to be.”

Celtic’s Premiership titles since 2000/01 compared to Rangers

Rodgers has won the Premiership title in every season he has been in Glasgow (four), but it’s not just a case of stopping him.

This is dominance that stems from when Martin O’Neill first joined Celtic back in 2000, starting with winning the Treble, and the rest is history.

Since the 2000/01 season, Celtic have won more than double the number of titles Rangers have been able to put on the table:
