It was a sorry ending for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter on Saturday evening after they were blown away by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
PSG joined Celtic by becoming European Cup winners, and ironically enough, both achieved that historic feat against the same opponent 58 years apart.
Whilst the famous Lisbon Lions wrote their names into the history books by beating Inter 2-1 in Lisbon, the Qatari-backed French champions went about it all in a very different way.
Luis Enrique’s men ripped apart the Serie A side, from start to finish, and secured the biggest ever victory in a European Cup final by putting five goals past a previously resolute Inter team.
And it seems as though the Italian side have proven to be a good luck charm to a few, including those in the colours of Celtic.

Inter’s Treble curse after losing Champions League final to Paris Saint-Germain
With that monumental win in Munich, Paris also joined an elite list of teams, including Celtic, by winning the continental Treble.
Only nine teams in the history of the game have got to that mark, and Inter have helped four of the teams along the way.
Starting from 1967 all the way to 2025 in Munich, the Nerazzurri have helped four teams in total – Celtic, Ajax, Manchester City, and now PSG – win their first continental Treble.
How many Trebles have Celtic won in their history?
Celtic are the only Scottish side to win Europe’s main and biggest prize, and it’s fair to say that it’s an achievement that might never come around again.
But whilst others dream of reaching such heights, at least Scotland’s most successful club can claim to have gone down that road.
Overall, Celtic have won one continental Treble, but the domestic Trebles are being stacked up for fun, especially during the modern era.
- Continental Trebles: 1966/67 (1)
- Domestic Trebles: 1966/67, 1968/69, 2000/01, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20, 2022/23 (8)
