Celtic beat Young Boys to book their place in the Champions League playoff places.
The win wasn’t as straightforward as many Hoops fans would have wanted but, in the end, Celtic saw off Young Boys after playing out a game that was packed with controversy.
Celtic Park was rocking at full time but it could have been so different had Adam Idah not fashioned out an own-goal that meant all three Champions League points stayed in Glasgow.
But the action-packed fixture left Gary Lineker stunned as he explained to Alan Shearer how Celtic’s win over the Swiss champions was ‘mad’.

Gary Lineker couldn’t believe what happened in Celtic’s win over Young Boys
Shearer admitted that he didn’t see much of the game due to taking in a different match so that led to Lineker explaining what was ‘quite extraordinary’ about Celtic beating Young Boys.
Shearer told The Rest Is Football [24m 45s], “I didn’t see a lot of the game. I just saw the bits that were coming through. Was it right that they had three disallowed and they missed a penalty?
Lineker: “In the first half, yeah. Yeah, it’s like…It was mad. And it wasn’t like they were obviously disallowed immediately.
“They all went…It was one after the other went to VAR. And they all… They were the right decisions.
“And then they missed a penalty as well. Yeah, it was quite extraordinary.”
Celtic’s previous fixtures vs Young Boys and why the stadium announcer was sacked after a dig at Rangers
Celtic have faced Young Boys on three occasions now. Last night’s win was an incredible 32 years apart from the last time both teams faced each other.
The Hoops last faced the Swiss side way back in 1993 when Celtic drew Young Boys in the UEFA Cup. In the first leg, a 0-0 draw was played out in Switzerland during Liam Brady’s disastrous spell as the Celtic manager.
However, the second leg was a turgid affair and it took, rather ironically, an Alain Baumann own goal to see Celtic into the next round.
But the game is more remembered for the time that stadium announcer, Tiger Tim, was sacked after he called for a minute’s silence after Rangers were knocked out of the Champions League by Levski Sofia.
