Celtic are flying towards winning another Treble under Brendan Rodgers.
One man who is helping the Celtic manager cruise towards those trophies is the man of the moment, Daizen Maeda.
The 27-year-old was already having a strong season when Kyogo Furuhashi left Celtic in January, but he has taken it to another level since.
Every time Celtic take to the field, you expect him to score and that was the case again at the weekend in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.
Celtic beat Hibernian to book their semi-final ticket against St Johnstone and, surprise, surprise, Maeda opened the scoring against David Gray’s men.
That’s now 27 goals in all competitions for the Japan star and there is rightfully talk of Maeda being Player of the Year.
But Maeda’s form has proven to be too difficult to take for some.

Andy Halliday baffled by Celtic star Daizen Maeda
Maeda scored and assisted twice when Celtic beat Andy Halliday’s Motherwell at Fir Park in January, so he has seen first-hand what he is like.
The Motherwell midfielder stated what Maeda has been doing of late is ‘not fair’ and ‘not right’ because he has been so good, as he told Open Goal.
Halliday noted how, playing down the middle, the all-action forward has ‘definitely got better’ compared to playing on the left.
“It’s not fair,” said Halliday. “It’s not fair. He could play today at 3pm. He could play another game today. He could play with his pals.
“It’s not right. I just don’t get it. But his quality has definitely got better, I think. Through the middle of the pitch, his quality has got better.
On why there aren’t more suitors for Maeda: “I don’t know,” added Halliday. “Kyogo has had suitors and Maeda has played ahead of Kyogo for years for Japan.”
Maeda’s season in numbers for Celtic
You might as well give Maeda the Player of the Year trophy now, along with the League Cup he has already won, the Premiership title that is coming and, hopefully, the Scottish Cup.
This is the best season of his career and the Celtic Park faithful have been blessed to witness it.
| Tournament | Apps | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premiership | 22(4) | 12 | 7 |
| Champions League | 9 | 4 | – |
| FA Cup | 2 | 5 | – |
| League Cup | 3 | 6 | – |
| Total / Average | 41 | 27 | 7 |
You know the true worth of a player, not just by what they produce in the domestic games, but also on Europe’s biggest stage.
And for Maeda to score four goals in nine matches for Celtic in the Champions League is very impressive indeed.
