Jack Butland has revealed he had a half-time chat with Nick Walsh as Celtic beat Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup.

The Rangers goalkeeper was seeking clarity from the match referee regarding the alleged ‘boot’ to his head from Celtic defender Auston Trusty.

Trusty has hit back at the claims he kicked Butland and said that the Celtic defender merely tapped the Rangers goalkeeper.

However, Butland has shared how he couldn’t wait until full-time to speak to Walsh as he looked for answers as to why Celtic’s American defender was not red-carded.

Jack Butland talks a lot but reveals nothing over the Auston Trusty Celtic controversy

With the game almost a week done, Butland has stoked the flames again and, to be honest, he was probably better off saying nothing after he spoke about the chat with Walsh.

Butland told Sky Sports, “I spoke to him about it at half-time, not at the end of the game because the game’s gone at that point.

“I was looking for some clarity at the time. I’m not going to go into individuals or whether we’ve got a different referee this weekend and obviously hoping the standard is top.

“Like I said, I think it’s just a situation where between the referee and all the staff that you’re looking for communication between them, calm communication between them, so that they go through things and come to the right decision.”

Butland says Rangers are disappointed with Celtic decision

Rangers released a statement demanding answers from the SFA over the Celtic decision at Hampden. So far, they have been rebuffed and told they will need to wait on any official statement from the national association.

And it appears the Ibrox club are not happy.

Butland continued, “Obviously, since then, the statements that have been made is that they’re happy with that. And if that’s the way that they’re going, then it’s got to continue like that.

“We focus on what directly affects us. Have we been disappointed with some of it? Yes, I think we have been.

“All that you can ask is that, regardless of how it’s happened and what decisions were made at the time, that improvements are being made and ultimately the right decisions are going to get made moving forward.

“I’m not going to put any fuel to that fire either, but we play in a competitive league where things can happen.

“Obviously, with the addition of all the assistance that the referees perhaps get nowadays, we can only hope moving forward and the right decisions get made and it stays as fair as it possibly can.”

It’s strange how Butland didn’t refer to Cornelius’ challenge on Johnny Kenny that could have broken the Celtic striker’s ankle.

It’s also a bit weird that the Rangers goalkeeper hasn’t spoken about the penalty Celtic were denied after Reo Hatate was clearly barged off the ball a mere two yards away from him.

But that just doesn’t suit his argument now, does it?
