Jackie McNamara makes ‘confident’ prediction as Celtic prepare for league bow

With the summer break almost over, some of the Bhoys have been in pre-season training for a while as they build up fitness ahead of the Bhoys’ Scottish Premiership opener against Kilmarnock on August 4th at Parkhead.

Queens Park lay in store this Wednesday on Glasgow’s southside before Celtic make the journey to the United States for a triple-header against DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Results aren’t important at this stage; that applies when the league campaign commences the following month. Following the unfurling of the flag, business resumes as normal for the Hoops in their quest for further silverware.

Getting off to a positive start is imperative on home soil, and Jackie McNamara has given his verdict on potential opening-day drama.

Flag day is a special time for all involved; there is celebration, reflection and a chance to welcome new arrivals before the serious stuff begins.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Podcast, McNamara has made a ‘confident’ prediction despite the difficult test Kilmarnock will provide.

He explained: “Yeah, it’s important (to start positively). I think you’re always confident at home; Kilmarnock have shown to be a tricky side last season, especially away from home with their pitch.

“Derek McInnes always has his teams well organised and difficult to break down, but again at home, unfurling the flag, the fans there and starting off the new season.

“You’d be confident of beating anybody, so I don’t foresee any problems with the first game; I think everybody will be excited to see who the new signings are and how they settle into the team.”

Confidence is key for Celtic; there can be no room for complacency based on the glories of last season. In the dressing room, there is a core of players who will be determined to ensure they put their best foot forward.

Nothing starts you off for a new term quite like three points at the first time of asking. It helps to breed confidence around the group and generate momentum for the coming weeks.

Hopefully, Celtic can call on some new signings and the old guard to commence 2024/25 in the best manner possible.
