When Jahmai Simpson-Pusey arrived at Celtic on loan from Manchester City in the summer, the expectation was that he would enjoy a stable season of crucial first-team development under Brendan Rodgers.
Instead, the highly-rated defender walked into a period of unprecedented turbulence at Parkhead.
The 20-year-old was forced to navigate a completely fractured environment in Glasgow. Following the sudden exit of Rodgers in October, the subsequent brief and chaotic spell under Wilfried Nancy meant Simpson-Pusey never had the foundation a young centre-back needs to build his confidence.
His time in a Celtic shirt was ultimately defined by intense managerial instability rather than his actual performances on the pitch.
Hoping for a fresh start, Simpson-Pusey’s mid-season switch to FC Koln in Germany’s top-tier was supposed to offer an escape from the relentless pressure and uncertainty of the Scottish Premiership.
Unfortunately, the managerial merry-go-round has followed him straight to Germany.
Should Celtic regret not giving Jahmai Simpson-Pusey a chance?

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey’s stats for FC Koln after Lukas Kwasniok is sacked
Koln sacked Lukas Kwasniok after their 3-3 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach over the weekend, which just deepens their relegation woes.
Simpson-Pusey watched from the sidelines because he is serving a red-card suspension after getting sent off during Koln’s costly defeat to Borussia Dortmund at the start of March.
On the one hand, for a player with so much raw potential, this constant state of flux is a nightmare.
Having already endured the exhausting turnover of Rodgers and Nancy at Celtic, Simpson-Pusey desperately needs a club where the manager will actually stick around long enough to help him develop.
Perhaps the only positive from his Koln spell so far is the fact that he has earned more minutes in a few months than he did during his entire nightmare six-month spell at Celtic.
