Ange Postecoglou must have been wishing he had never left Celtic for Tottenham in 2021 after the amount of scrutiny he has come under this season.
Spurs’ Premier League form has been giving Postecoglou nightmares as the former Celtic manager struggled to deal with horrific injury problems that laid waste to his squad.
Sitting just one place above the automatic relegation zone, Postecoglou has come under serious fire this season but has answered his critics in emphatic style as the Celtic hero lifted the Europa League.
However, as the criticism piled on Ange before the big final, what Jamie Carragher said about the former Celtic manager’s future at Spurs now looks a bit daft after Postecoglou created history in Bilbao last night.

Jamie Carragher says Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs career is over regardless of Europa League win
Carragher seems to have had a bee in his bonnet about Postecoglou over the last couple of weeks. But before Tottenham had kicked off against Man United in Bilbao, the former Liverpool man made a prediction about Postecoglou’s Spurs future that looks a bit daft now.
Carragher told CBS Sports Golazo, “I think he had a really good first season, considering they lost arguably the greatest player in the history of the club, in Harry Kane.
“They finished fifth. But this season, there’s no doubt they’ve had injuries, but the injuries come, I think on the back of his style of play.
“It’s very intense, very on the front foot. He doesn’t change, and I think his press conferences have probably been more entertaining than the team.
“And even yesterday, on the eve of a European final, he was still going at and being on the front foot. And I haven’t been a manager, and I know sometimes I’d probably be like that with maybe reporters, but it’s every game.
“It’s almost like a constant fight and a battle, and every press conference feels like an event. I think sometimes he only stokes the flames a little bit himself.
“But I do like watching his teams play. I’ve always said they are the most entertaining team in the league, whether they’re playing well or poor, because there’s always goals. Very rarely has 0-0.
“I’m not sure he’s even had many, if any, in his two years there, but I’ll be very surprised, no matter what the result tonight, or not surprised, I don’t think he’ll be Tottenham manager.
“I think he’ll basically have two games left as the Tottenham manager tonight and at the weekend.”
It’s not the first time Carragher has got something wrong about an ex-Celtic man after he said his original verdict on Virgil van Dijk was clearly ill-judged.
And looking at the fallout from the Europa League win so far, it looks like Carragher will be left with egg on his face with this prediction on the former Celtic manager.
How Ange Postecoglou’s winning record at Celtic set him up for Tottenham success
Postecoglou is a winner. At every football club or team he has been at, he has won silverware.
But there is no doubt his success at Celtic helped set him up for his big moment at Tottenham after he won the Europa League.
The pressure to bring silverware and winning football to Celtic after a disastrous trophyless season in 2020/21 was relentless on Postecoglou.
Trailing Rangers in the league, losing the first Glasgow Derby and leaking goals in his early Celtic tenure put Postecoglou under serious pressure, not from fans, but the Scottish media.
But Postecoglou took all the negativity and turned Celtic into treble-winning champions and that experience will have stood the Australian in good stead for what he has faced this season at Spurs.
