Ange Postecoglou certainly knows how to get the media talking, no matter what topic is being put on the table.
After leaving Celtic during the summer of 2023 and joining Tottenham Hotspur, Postecoglou has made more headlines than most.
What is disappointing is that, if Spurs get knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday night, then it could be the end of Postecoglou’s reign.
The Celtic hero is under immense pressure, and life after his success in Glasgow isn’t going the way he would like, and there have been calls for him to be sacked.
Postecoglou brings up all sorts of topics and talking points in his press conferences, as his recent thoughts on assists have started a bit of a debate.

Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou causes a stir with ‘assist’ comments
Postecoglou is blunt and straight to the point, it’s what made him popular at Celtic, on top of the fact that he got the club going again, as well as winning the Treble.
But the 59-year-old recently stated that assists are ‘the most useless stat in world football’, and Jamie Carragher disagreed with that statement, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (14/04/25).
Carragher noted how some of the best players in the land top the assist charts, so somebody somewhere must be doing something right.
“You (Thierry Henry) say, why wasn’t there an award (for being the top assist-maker)?” said Carragher. “I think the award came in the 2017/18 season, in terms of assists.
“But we had a Premier League manager in Ange Postecoglou, I think a week or two ago, saying ‘an assist is almost the pointless stat I have ever seen’. As we know, somebody can roll a ball, and somebody scores a great goal.
“But I don’t agree with that. We know somebody can get an assist, but they haven’t really done anything. You just passed the ball, and somebody has scored a great goal. We get that.
“But it’s no surprise that the best players in the league are at the top, so this idea that assists don’t count and anyone can give an assist. Hang on, Thierry Henry. The best player in the Premier League. Kevin de Bruyne, the best passer.”
Postecoglou set to manage his final game for Tottenham?
Celtic fans are eager for Postecoglou to do well, but his time in Tottenham colours could be coming to an end, and his date with destiny could be in Frankfurt, Germany.
If Spurs get knocked out of the Europa League by the Bundesliga side, then it seems as though Ange’s time is up, and he will be out the door.
Whatever happens, Postecoglou is welcome back at Celtic, at any time, as he delivered a brilliant answer to his future ahead of the Frankfurt match.
“No, I have no idea,” responded Postecoglou on what will happen to his future. “I know we have a game against Frankfurt.
“But it’s not something I need to think about, I don’t think. I have never thought about those kinds of things, in terms of what is important.
“What’s important is the game against Frankfurt. It’s a massive opportunity for this group of players, for us as a team and this football club to get close to achieving what everyone wants to achieve.
“Anything else, other than that, and particularly in terms of me, I don’t really have much of a thought process that thinks about life. My career or what I am doing in that way.”
