Jason Cundy says Jose Mourinho is ‘starting little rumours’ about Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic

Celtic have had many great characters take to their dugout over the years.

From the legendary European Cup winner Jock Stein to the modern-day great Martin O’Neill, they are some of the greatest of them all.

In this current moment in time, Brendan Rodgers is writing his name into Celtic’s history books and eating up the trophies like he is at the buffet.

Hopefully, Rodgers has learned his lesson and he won’t repeat what he did in 2019 when he left for Leicester City.

But, whilst Celtic dominate again in Scotland, there will be a time when the current man in the dugout does depart and a certain Jose Mourinho has made some interesting comments of late.

With Mourinho’s Fenerbahce side facing Rangers in the Europa League, he was asked about life in Scotland – where he started his coaching badges – and the two teams in Glasgow.

Mourinho didn’t rule out managing Celtic one day, but what is the likelihood of it happening?

Celtic told Jose Mourinho is simply ‘starting little rumours’

The 62-year-old has managed across Europe and won it all, including two European Cups with Porto and Inter.

But Jason Cundy thinks Mourinho is merely starting ‘little rumours’ with his comments and he has done this before, when the England job was available before Thomas Tuchel was appointed.

However, the former Chelsea player feels that Mourinho is still capable of being manager of a team in the Champions League, as he told talkSPORT.

“He does like to start little rumours like that, Jose, doesn’t he?!” said Cundy.

“I remember when someone asked him about the England job and he didn’t say no to it. Everyone was going ‘oh, he didn’t say no. Jose might manage England, one day’. He does that a lot.”

Jamie O’Hara responded: “He isn’t going to Scotland, is he?!” To which Cundy added: “Probably not. He likes his warmer climates, doesn’t he?!”

On if Mourinho is done at the top level: “Where can he go,” asked Cundy. “He has managed pretty much most countries and some of the top jobs in those countries.

“I think he probably has. I don’t think we are going to see him at the elite level. He might get a team in the Champions League, but I don’t think we are talking elite. Also, he has got baggage. You have to be careful. There haven’t been too many managers like Jose.

“What he is doing there is he is quite smart – if he came out and said ‘the league is garbage’. All he is doing is rattling everyone.”

Mourinho vs Brendan Rodgers’ trophy haul

For those who didn’t know, the two have history!

When Mourinho took charge of Chelsea in 2004, he proceeded to bring in a fresh-faced and upcoming Rodgers to manage the club’s academy.

Rodgers has a lot of time for Mourinho because of that and the duo have picked up the trophies for fun over the years.
