Jens Berthel Askou was once again asked about his future at Motherwell, but his comments don’t seem to be the answer that Celtic fans were hoping for.

Askou is the favourite among Hoops fans for the job after a stellar season in charge at Fir Park in which he has got the Steelmen competing for a place in Europe.

The Motherwell boss has repeatedly ignored the Celtic links but in his most recent interview, he seemed to be more clear-cut in where his future may lie.

Jens Berthel Askou suggests he is staying at Motherwell

With the post-split fixtures days away from being announced, all eyes are on what could happen next season.

Even if isn’t Celtic, the 43-year-old can expect to be linked with a host of jobs around Europe; however, it seems like he is ready to stay with the Steelmen.

“We have good conversations about everything,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“We’re also planning stuff that is not official yet. Important things concerning infrastructure.

“There are a lot of things going on inside the building that people don’t see.

“In terms of the planning, we need to get away from looking at one season at a time.

“When that happens we think about what we have left and then we try again to build something new.

“That’s not going to take us to the next level. It’s not going to bring consistency.

“To go to the next level we must first have more of what we want to do set and built from the start of the season.”

Jens Berthel Askou comments show the difference between Motherwell and Celtic

While Askou was highlighting the work Motherwell are doing in order to prepare for next season, it has only emphasised how behind the Celtic board are.

No manager will be appointed until the summer, wasting valuable time when it comes to being ahead of the curve with squad planning and focusing on getting the signings in through the door quickly.

Tawanda Maswanhise and Elijiah Just have both been linked with the Bhoys but plans will already be made to replace them.

Is that the same at Parkhead? Very unlikely.
