Aberdeen’s defeat to Celtic leaves the Pittodrie club rooted to the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.
Granted, it’s only two games into the new season but Celtic’s win over the Dons has already set the alarm bells ringing in the Granite City.
The euphoria of the Scottish Cup win is long gone as Celtic made Aberdeen look lacklustre in the 2-0 win at Pittodrie.
And speaking post-match, Dons boss Jimmy Thelin looked close to tears as he realised just how far away his team are from Celtic.

Gutted Jimmy Thelin’s big Celtic admission
Thelin now knows the historic Scottish Cup win is miles behind Aberdeen and post-match, the Swede looked visibly upset as he talked up Celtic.
Thelin told Sky Sports, “I think overall, of course, Celtic were the better team. I think in some parts we were in the first half.
“We know they are good, so we keep them away in a good way, in how we defend. Still when we win the ball back, we lose it too quickly when we get the ball back.
“We still have a bit to do with the work with how we can keep the ball inside our team or arrive to a better chance and the opportunity we have some good transitional moments, but they also defend really well.”
Jimmy Thelin gutted as Celtic punish Aberdeen
The Pittodrie gaffer did seem to try and get his side back into the game and when pushing for an equaliser, Thelin was gutted that Celtic picked off Aberdeen on the counter-attack.
Thelin continued, “It was not a good moment when they scored their second goal. We were trying to get from there to get an equaliser and give us a chance to win the game.
“But when they scored a second goal, I think we didn’t get the last 10 minutes, we don’t create, we still get stuck with the ball and don’t arrive too many times to their box.
“So we still have things to improve, to be a better team, especially at home, to create more chances in the last, last part of the game.”
It looked like Thelin was emotional as he took in the post-match press duties and, to be fair, it seems the form that Aberdeen have carried since Celtic destroyed them at Hampden in the League Cup semi final last year is taking its toll on him.
For Celtic, they can relax in the knowledge that they have daylight between them and Rangers with the next league fixture not to be played until the 23rd of August.
