Jimmy Thelin looks broken as he reacts to Celtic’s 5-1 hammering of Aberdeen

Celtic recorded one of their biggest wins of the season at home after beating Aberdeen 5-1 at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers banished the ghosts of Celtic’s defeat at Hibs with a five-goal mauling of the Pittodrie club despite not getting out of second gear to the third-placed Scottish Premiership side.

Celtic battered Aberdeen despite making a stuttering start at Parkhead as Jimmy Thelin’s side failed to capitalise on a couple of early first-half chances to take the lead.

However, Celtic got a foothold in the game and despite not playing to their capabilities, Thelin found himself going in at the break three goals down and that is what the Dons boss focused on in post-match analysis of the defeat.

Jimmy Thelin rues ‘too soft’ Aberdeen in mauling at Celtic Park

Thelin looked despondent at full-time as he ran the rule over Celtic’s 5-1 win over his Aberdeen side.

Thelin told Sky Sports, “I think the first half is the chances we create. The first half is good, it’s a difficult away game and you create these chances.

“We need to score some of these chances and to come away from here with points. Of course, some of the goals they scored were good, but a bit too soft from our side.”

“So you feel like you’re doing a quite good performance but it’s still 3-0 when you go in at half time and then when we’re going out in second half is difficult.

“They can play and we try to chase, then we open up, and then they can control the game really well as they’re doing.

“I think we’re going to get some learning points on this game. I think, we try to be true to our identity and go out and face the game to be better as a team and test ourselves, and I think we did some really good things in the first half, but it’s still 3-0.

Jimmy Thelin’s record as Aberdeen boss vs Celtic

Since coming to Aberdeen in the summer, Thelin has faced Celtic four times in domestic competitions.

Out of those four games, the Aberdeen boss has failed to win as Thelin felt the full force of Celtic for the second time this season.
