Celtic had the chance to stretch their lead to Rangers to 16 points with a win against Aberdeen.

And didn’t Brendan Rodgers do just that as the Bhoys battered Aberdeen 5-1 in a footballing lesson at Celtic Park?

Goals from Daizen Maeda (2), Jota, Callum McGregor and Hyunjun Yang put Celtic’s total number of goals scored this season against Aberdeen at 14 in four games.

However, as Rodgers took in his pre-match interview just before kick-off, the Celtic manager was asked about Rangers hiring interim manager, Barry Ferguson, the Northern Irishman was in no mood to speak about anything other than his own team.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers shuts down BBC man’s Rangers line of questioning

Rodgers was asked by BBC Radio Scotland’s Jonathan Sutherland, “Brendan, obviously, it’s been a tumultuous couple of days across on the other half of the city.

Barry Ferguson installed his interim manager at Rangers. What’s your thoughts on that? Take you by surprise? It certainly took him by surprise.”

To which Rodgers replied, “With the greatest respect, I’m concentrating on Celtic Aberdeen and that’s my only focus.”

Brendan Rodgers’ best replies to strange lines of BBC questioning

Rodgers has been laser-focused on Celtic since he took over the club but this is not the first time the Hoops boss has been asked strange questions by reporters from the BBC.

After Celtic’s win against Dundee United, Rodgers had to reject a suggestion that the pressure was off the Bhoys after going 16 points ahead at the top of the table.

Before Celtic faced Bayern Munich, Rodgers had to remind one journalist that he focuses on one game at a time as he refused to be drawn into speaking about the Champions League tie before Celtic faced Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup.

And when it was suggested that only Celtic fans get frustrated at poor performances, Rodgers reminded one BBC journalist that this happens with every supporter at every ground and it is part of football for every club.

Rodgers is an expert at not being drawn into debates that don’t concern Celtic but it seems that won’t stop the Scottish media from trying.
