One more to go for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers.
On Saturday, Celtic recorded a 1-1 draw against St Mirren to celebrate their 2024/25 Premiership title in style, including James Forrest scoring his record-breaking goal.
On the same day, Aberdeen were beaten at Dundee United, days after Celtic put five goals past them at Pittodrie in the Premiership.
It means that Jimmy Thelin’s side finished fifth in the Premiership table, after starting the season like a house on fire, and some suggested they could be in a title race.
All of that has now fallen flat on Aberdeen’s face, and they go into the Scottish Cup final next Saturday at Hampden with their heads well and truly down.

Jimmy Thelin’s ‘quite dark’ message before Aberdeen face Celtic in the Scottish Cup final
The last time Celtic met Aberdeen, they put five goals past them, and the last time they faced each other at Hampden, six goals were scored by the Bhoys in green and white.
Added to that, Celtic are pushing for the Treble, so you can bet your bottom dollar that the champions of Scotland are going to throw everything at this one.
There shouldn’t be any excuses here, because Aberdeen aren’t in a good place, as Thelin told BBC Sport that things are ‘quite dark’.
“In the end, our game summarises our season a little bit,” stated Thelin. “It has been inconsistent in games and between games.
“It can be short moments in the games when we fall too deep and can’t really control the situations. That’s a thing we have identified and tried to work with and do better.
“Right now, everybody is so disappointed. Everything is quite dark right now. But it’s also my job to look to the future in an optimistic way.
“We have come from a really tough season last season, and had a goal to arrive in Europe, we are in Europe.
“With our inconsistency, we didn’t do enough to deserve more over the whole season. This is the first year of a three-year journey. We have identified things we tried to make things better and more stable.”
Celtic vs Aberdeen’s record in 2025
After that roaring start, Aberdeen just haven’t been able to pick themselves up, and the fact that they ended up fifth is pretty woeful.
Since the turn of the year, even Celtic went through some poor patches of form, but it was nowhere near the deep holes Aberdeen fell into.
This is how Celtic and Aberdeen’s records have looked in the league and Scottish Cup in 2025:
| Records in Premiership and Scottish Cup in 2025 | Games | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goals scored | Goals conceded |
| Celtic | 24 | 17 | 3 | 4 | 79 | 23 |
| Aberdeen | 23 | 9 | 4 | 10 | 29 | 37 |
