John Hartson has hailed the appointment of Martin O’Neill as the interim boss and demanded Celtic hand him an 18-month contract.
O’Neill broke his silence on the Celtic job this morning when he admitted that when Dermot Desmond made the call, he found it really difficult to say no.
The iconic Celtic man takes the reins alongside Shaun Maloney and their first order of business is to successfully negotiate the Parkhead fixture against Falkirk tomorrow night.
And whilst O’Neill is delighted to be taking up the Celtic Park dugout one more time, John Hartson shares the role at the club the veteran Northern Irishman could really want.

John Hartson says Martin O’Neill ‘may look’ at the director of football role at Celtic
Celtic haven’t really had a middle-man between the manager and the board since Jock Brown was the general manager back in the late 90s.
And now, it seems that Martin O’Neill could be angling for that role at Celtic this season, according to the legendary Hoops striker.
Hartson took to X and said, “Celtic need to bring stability to the supporters, players and the new signings.
“Nobody better to do that than Martin O’Neill at this stage. Give him an 18 month contract and let him get on with it.
“Statement just out, the Gaffer in for short term.
“He may look to go upstairs and look at the director of football role.”
What Martin O’Neill said about Danny Rohl with Celtic vs Rangers game days away
O’Neill’s second game in charge at Celtic will be against Danny Rohl’s Rangers on Sunday in the Premier Sports Cup.
The 2pm kick-off will be the talk of the country as O’Neill and Rohl square up at Hampden. So what has O’Neill made of the German’s appointment at Rangers?
O’Neill said last week, “I think when Russell Martin was appointed, his style of play followed him, in that sense, up to Ibrox, and then perhaps, the Ibrox fans were looking, ‘listen, we must be winning at all costs’, so that didn’t go down brilliantly.
“However, I think they will know much less about Danny Rohl, and maybe be prepared to give him a chance. They will certainly know that he has only had the one managerial job.
“Because they know less about him, in that sense, they might be prepared to say, ‘this is it.’”
