John Souttar’s nonsensical analysis of Celtic’s goals after heroic Ibrox fightback

Rangers defender John Souttar gives Celtic no credit whatsoever after the Bhoys’ superb Ibrox fightback in the Glasgow Derby.

Celtic’s draw with Rangers looked like it was never coming after Danny Rohl’s side battered the Hoops in the first 45 minutes of the game.

However, after half-time, Celtic rallied and drew level through goals from Reo Hatate and Kieran Tierney capped off a brilliant fightback by the Bhoys.

But it seems Souttar was in no mood to give the Hoops any credit as he labelled Celtic’s goals as ‘scruffy’ in an interview on Rangers’ TV channel.

Ally McCoist’s tears over Celtic’s penalty are brilliant.

What is he talking about??

Gutted John Souttar’s bitter Celtic verdict after Ibrox draw

The defender looked dejected and in disbelief, but was clearly in no mood to give Celtic any credit at all for the spirited fightback.

Souttar told Rangers TV, “Reaction, first half, we were spot on. We were excellent. 45 minutes, thought we dominated off the ball.

“On the ball, we were aggressively physical. The crowd came with us. I thought we were in a great position going into half-time.

“And second half, I thought we started well. First 5-10 minutes, same again, playing in their half. And then, for one reason or another, we start letting them into the game and give them too much time on the ball, too much respect, too much space in between the lines.

“And then that’s what happens when you do that, you get scruffy goals. And that’s what happened, two scruffy goals.”

Such a strange take from Souttar when Celtic had Rangers pegged back for much of the second half, plus the quality of Kieran Tierney’s goal was superb.

The build-up, the passing play and then Benjamin Nygren’s deft chip set up Tierney to divert his header expertly past the helpless Jack Butland.

And as for the penalty, the build-up play again was excellent as James Forrest skinned the Rangers full-back to set up Daizen Maeda’s header.

Souttar is clearly bitter and ungracious as the disappointment of bottling another big game against Celtic bites the Rangers defender hard.

John Souttar’s hypocrisy as defender admits Celtic left Rangers frustrated

So if Celtic’s goals were ‘scruffy’ why does the Rangers defender go on and say that the Hoops had plenty of time on the ball to fashion those goals?

Souttar continued, “When you give teams time and time to cross the ball, and there’s going to be times with ricochets and penalties and stuff like that.

“But the frustrating thing for us, I think we’ve got to look at ourselves, because first half, how we can be so dominant, so, so aggressive, so on the front foot. In the second half, we really fell off that.”

At the end of the day, when it matters, and we mean when it really matters, Rangers failed once again to beat Celtic in a meaningful game.

And if the Hoops beat Aberdeen on Wednesday night, the Ibrox club will move into third place with Celtic becoming the main challengers to Hearts.
