Jonny Hayes has cleared up why he was in attendance to watch Ferencvaros play as their manager Robbie Keane continues to be linked with the Celtic job.

Keane is one of the favourites to become the Celtic manager, but has tried to remain coy on all of the speculation.

Hayes and Scott Brown went to Hungary to watch the Irishman’s side, sparking interest from all angles about the possibility of him coming to Parkhead in the summer, and the former Hoops full-back has explained why they were there.

In his explanation, Hayes revealed that there were no Celtic links to this story and that it was actually to do with the Scottish FA Coach Education Pro licence course.

He shared the explanation behind the trip on his LinkedIn account, saying: “A brilliant few days spent at Ferencvarosi Torna Club for our Scottish FA Coach Education Pro licence club visit. We couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome.

“Great to see the guys both on and off the pitch, and I’m delighted to see them progress to the Magyar Kupa final.”

They were invited by Stephen Glass, Keane’s assistant, who also worked with Brown during their time together at Aberdeen.

Robbie Keane’s chances of Celtic job may be hurt by title race

As Celtic do their best to hold onto their title as the dominant force in Scotland, Keane is experiencing something very similar with Ferencvaros.

Gyor beat Fradi to go top of the Hungarian top flight and leave the Irishman’s side clinging on in their own battle.

Ferencvaros have won the league every year since 2018 and, if he is the man in charge should they miss out, the Hoops may decide to look elsewhere.
