Jota's long-time friend gives positive Celtic indication
One of Jota’s long-time friends from the Benfica academy has provided Celtic supporters with a positive sign they’ll be enjoying the winger this season.
Jair Tavares has just completed a move from Benfica to Hibernian and has been speaking to the Scottish press from their training camp in Portugal.
The new Easter Road star has revealed that Jota helped sell him on a move to Edinburgh. Tavares also has the feeling that his Benfica buddy will commit his future to Celtic.
As quoted by The Daily Record, he said: “Jota was a legend of Benfica in the academy. He was one of the guys like me, who didn’t have the chance to play at Benfica. We had to look to the future because of this.
“He did amazing last season and I’m here to support him too. There are two Portuguese players in Scotland now, we’re here to represent our country. He was always so good. You don’t know Jota! When he was young there was a big difference between him and the others.
“Do I think he will stay at Celtic? I guess. I don’t know but I think yes.
“I asked him about Scottish football and about Hibs too. He gave me some good advice, told me some good things about Hibs. He said besides Rangers and Celtic he thought Hibs was more or less the third strongest team in Scotland.
“He helped me so much to decide to come here. Of course he’s in a different town but he’s my friend. I’ve known him for a long time. Maybe since I was 10.”
As we’ve been discussing already today, all reports indicate Jota to Celtic remains on track, despite a longer wait than many expected.
With Cameron Carter-Vickers arriving so early in the transfer window, many thought the winger would quickly follow, especially with reports continuing to say it’s imminent.
However, clearly, there’s a good reason it hasn’t gone through quite yet.
Hopefully, we at least see him on the flight to Austria early next week. If he misses that trip, people may have a genuine reason for concern.
Right now, take comfort in the words of a long-time ally!
