Taking a break from Celtic’s win over Rangers for a moment, there is an update on former Celtic favourite, Jota, that the fans may well be interested in.

The Portuguese winger enjoyed two trophy-laden seasons at Celtic as he won a double and then a subsequent Treble under Ange Postecoglou.

His incredible skill and trickery on the wing made him an instant fan favourite and during his time at Celtic, Jota was also lethal in front of goal.

28 goals and 26 assists in 83 appearances made Jota one of Celtic’s most potent attacking threats and it also earned him his eye-watering move to Al-Ittihad.

Jota’s Celtic exit turns sour again

We have discussed Jota’s situation at the Saudi Arabian club on numerous occasions on 67 Hail Hail. And last night’s update from Fabrizio Romano just further compounded his turbulent time at the club.

Jota has certainly had a time of it since deciding to leave Glasgow last summer. There were doubts last August that he had a long-term future at Al-Ittihad after league regulations meant that with only eight foreign players allowed in the squad, as the ninth arrival, Jota wasn’t eligible to play the Al-Ittihad’s domestic league campaign.

The Portuguese has also had to watch on as the manager who brought him to the club in a £25m move, Nuno Espirito Santo, was sacked in November.

Allowing Jota to leave did raise questions this season. Especially after Celtic’s early struggles under the early tenure of Brendan Rodgers.

And now, it seems there is further turmoil ahead for the former Celtic favourite after yet another manager was let go this season.

Could Jota find a return to Celtic or even get what was looking like a promising career back on track? Who knows.

But one thing is for certain. It now looks like taking the decision to leave Glasgow was the wrong one as Jota now looks like he will need to prove his worth to his club again as they begin the search for a new manager.
