Kasper Schmeichel has broken his silence following his injury setback, but his message to Celtic fans comes at a time when their role in this title run has been hammered home as being crucial.

The goalkeeper faced scrutiny after a difficult night in Celtic’s defeat to Stuttgart, with sections of the support turning on him during the match.

The reaction raised questions about the role of the support, but Schmeichel’s response has gone in the opposite direction..

Schmeichel’s message cuts through the noise

Instead, his focus has been fixed on what Celtic supporters represent at their best, and he has not diluted that message in any way.

Schmeichel said, “I’m a sensitive guy. I hear a lot of stuff and I feed off that energy without question, both positive and negative.

“But the energy that the fans can bring is so important. Like when you play at Celtic Park and they are with you, you’re unstoppable.

“You know, I can honestly say you stand in that goal and you feel the atmosphere, you feel the drive. I’d hate to be an opposition player there because that is the ultimate weapon Celtic have.

“That unity, that support when all that is buzzing. You’ve won before you even go on the pitch practically because it’s absolutely everything.

“You know, you talked about you saw me in in Washington. I’d always known about Celtic. I’d obviously knew Joe [Hart] and playing here and all that, but it wasn’t until I went to Washington and the amount of fans outside the hotel and wow, yeah, this is major.

“Being part of a club with that kind of stature in the world. That that’s something I’m immensely proud of.”

That is not a softened statement, it is a direct reinforcement of the role supporters play in shaping results and performances at Celtic Park.

He also pointed to the global scale of the club, referencing the amount of fans outside the hotel during the Washington trip and stating he is immensely proud to be part of it.

Why the reaction at Celtic Park matters more now

The timing of those comments is important given what unfolded during the Europa League defeat, where the booing of Kasper Schmeichel became a major talking point.

That reaction was not dismissed, with it made clear that criticism from the stands doesn’t help and that pressure in those moments of course it does affect players.

Schmeichel has not pushed back against that, but he has chosen to emphasise the opposite side of it, the version of the fans at Celtic Park that drives performance rather than disrupts it.

He has not turned on the Celtic support, instead he has reinforced what he believes when Celtic are at their strongest.

The message is clear. The same crowd that can create pressure can also remove it, and when that balance is right, Celtic become a different side entirely.
