Kieran Tierney thinks Celtic are in a four-way title battle with Hearts, Rangers and Motherwell.

Usually, Celtic are used to walking away with it, but not this time around, as this is going to be about who can hold their nerve and showcase that strong character.

Two men who are used to all of this are Callum McGregor and James Forrest, as Tierney highlighted the duo’s vital experience to the champions of Scotland.

“Experience in a title run is a massive thing,” said Tierney. “We have our captain, Cal, who has been here and won so many trophies. James Forrest as well. Boys who have been there in the past.”

Kieran Tierney says the title race in Scotland is ‘exciting’ for the image of Scottish football

Celtic play Aberdeen on Wednesday night for their rearranged Premiership fixture, and this is a huge chance for Martin O’Neill’s side to move into second place and put pressure on leaders, Hearts.

Tierney himself, during his first spell at Parkhead, was used to picking up trophy after trophy after trophy.

But as Celtic’s returning left-back noted that Scottish football is heading down a road it has never been down before, he put forward McGregor and Forrest as the players behind the scenes who are ‘amazing’ for this kind of situation.

“It’s probably exciting if you are watching it from the outside,” said Tierney on what this title race is doing for the image of Scottish football.

“Something that has maybe not been there for a while. I can imagine, from the outside, it’s probably decent.

“Of course (Motherwell are still in the race). Until something is mathematically impossible, you don’t know what could happen. But we are focusing on us, and not what is around us.

“Experience in a title run is a massive thing. We have our captain, Cal, who has been here and won so many trophies. James Forrest as well. Boys who have been there in the past.

“It’s amazing to have guys like that in the changing room, even the manager as well, who has been involved. So, it’s brilliant for us, and I am hoping it helps.”

Callum McGregor and James Forrest’s incredible numbers for Celtic combined

When the dust has settled, McGregor and Forrest will go down as Celtic legends, as their records speak for themselves.

Whilst the Celtic skipper is a regular starter, Forrest is still a bench player, and you wonder if O’Neill will turn to him a lot more in the coming months because it could prove to be valuable.

But their combined overall records as Celtic players are truly remarkable.
