Kris Boyd’s rant is embarrassing for Graeme Souness after his Celtic claim as Rangers lose again

Celtic moved nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table on Wednesday evening after their win over Dundee and Rangers’ loss at Aberdeen.

It’s pretty clear now that Celtic are in a title battle with Aberdeen, with the duo level on points (28) and Brendan Rodgers’ side clear on goal difference (+26 to +11).

It may have taken up until the hour mark for Celtic to score their first goal against Dundee, but in the end, it was a fairly comfortable 2-0 win for the champions.

But, let’s be honest, whilst everyone expected three points at Parkhead, all eyes were on Pittodrie and what would be the result of Aberdeen’s clash against Rangers.

In the end, Philippe Clement watched his team take yet another humbling loss, as they are closer to Ross County in eighth than the champions themselves.

Kris Boyd went on a little rant after Rangers’ loss to Aberdeen, but before that, it wasn’t so long ago that a certain Graeme Souness was telling us something completely different.

Graeme Souness doesn’t think there is a Celtic and Rangers gap

You probably won’t get more deluded pundits than Souness, but, at the end of the day, you love it because it keeps you entertained.

As everyone saw last season, even with Ange Postecoglou heading for the exit door, Rodgers returned and, not only delivered the title, but also that famous late winner in the Scottish Cup final.

Yet, Souness still dared to claim that there isn’t a gap between Celtic and Rangers, as he claimed at the start of the campaign.

“The discussion last season was about the gap,” said Souness.

“Now I don’t think there is such a big gap. I really don’t. I think I saw about four games, two O-d F-rm games last year of Rangers. I obviously watch them on the telly when they are on, I watch Celtic when they are on, I don’t see the gap as being enormous.”

Kris Boyd rants after Rangers lose to Aberdeen

Whilst one former Rangers player doesn’t see sense, it’s great to see that, at least, another one can see the light.

It’s amazing that Kris Boyd is the one to see that, but he went off on an interesting rant after Rangers’ loss to Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

Souness spoke about there not being much of a gap between his former side and Celtic, but Boyd sees it very differently.

The former striker told Sky Sports (30/10/24 at 10:45 pm) that Aberdeen are ‘miles ahead’ of Rangers.

It’s quite embarrassing for Souness because, you can forget about the gap to Celtic, they have to try and catch Aberdeen, at this point.

“They (Rangers) are absolutely everything that Rangers aren’t,” said Boyd after Rangers’ latest defeat. “They have got a workrate. They have got a style of play about them – Rangers, I know it’s quarter 11, but it might be half 11 by the time I finish with this.

“There is no style or no connection with Rangers. They are hoping something will happen – Rangers don’t dominate games of football. If you are going to be one of the bigger clubs in the country, you dominate games. You wear the opposition down. It just doesn’t happen with Rangers.

“From top to bottom, Rangers are leaderless. I don’t care what anyone says. Aberdeen have recruited a team within £2 million. By the way, sold their best player. They have built this team on £2 million. They are miles ahead of Rangers, in terms of structure and even a work ethic to go and play. Rangers have spent over £10 million and downgraded in every single position.”
