Celtic striker, Kyogo Furuhashi has created Japanese footballing history after an incredible goalscoring season with the club.
The Japanese striker finished as the Scottish Premiership’s Top Goalscorer after netting a double against Aberdeen on Trophy Day that took his league tally to 27 for the season.
That means that Kyogo is the first Japanese player ever to finish as the top goalscorer in a European league. [Sponichi]
The 28-year-old’s goalscoring form has seen him hit the headlines in Japan and it has also caught the attention of the Japan National Manager, Hajime Moriyasu.
Kyogo was recalled to the Japan squad for the Kirin Cup double header against El Salvador and Peru next month after being snubbed for the Qatar World Cup last year.
His goal contributions have not only been crucial to Celtic’s success in the league but also in the domestic cup competitions.
A double in this season’s League Cup Final helped bring the trophy back to Celtic Park for the second season in a row and three goals in the Scottish Cup have taken Celtic to the brink of yet another treble this season.
Kyogo has already stated that he wants to stay at Celtic for the foreseeable future and if he continues his current goal-scoring form, it won’t be long until he is hitting triple figures for the club.
At 53 goals so far for the Hoops, after two seasons, the Japanese striker is already ahead of the likes of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Moussa Dembele.
This caps off an outstanding season for Kyogo where he has won multiple awards for his performances for Celtic this season.
The next target for the Celtic striker is the Champions League where he will be keen to make his mark after a disappointing first outing this season.
