La Liga giants Athletic Club send classy message to Celtic winger James Forrest

James Forrest is already a Celtic legend, it’s now about just how far up the tree he goes.

The 33-year-old, who started his career in 2009, has been on Celtic’s book since 2002 and has a near three-decade association with Scotland’s biggest club.

That is now certain because Forrest penned a new contract this week and he will stay at Parkhead until, at least, 2026.

Bobby Lennox is Celtic’s most decorated player of all-time, but it won’t be too long before Forrest, not only matches that record, but smashes through it.

The Scotland international is on 24 trophies, he can match Lennox if Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup final next month and he can then break it by winning his 13th Premiership title – and more.

Within the four walls of the green and white, Forrest is certainly loved and appreciated for what he has done in his career.

But he also received a classy message from La Liga side Athletic Club after penning a new deal.

Athletic Club hail James Forrest as ‘one-club Man in the making’ for Celtic

Forrest’s testimonial took place last summer at Parkhead when Celtic beat Athletic Club 3-2.

The Spanish giants didn’t just turn up for a game, but educated and emersed themselves into who Celtic are and why they are Scotland’s greatest club.

But now they have continued that great bond by reacting on Twitter to the news of Forrest’s new deal.

The English version of Athletic Club’s official social media account posted an image of Forrest walking out for his testimonial last year and how he is a ‘one-club man in the making’.

“𝗢𝗻𝗲-𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗠𝗮𝗻 in the making,” wrote Athletic Club. “Gaun yersel, James! Celtic Park. 1 August 2023. James Forrest’s testimonial vs @Athletic_en. #Forrest2026 #AthleticClub.”

Forrest’s stats for Celtic

Forrest is now playing a squad role at Celtic, and even if he was at his prime best, it would take something of that nature to get into this Rodgers XI.

Daizen Maeda is a nightmare to play against for the opposition, while Nicolas Kuhn is the best player in Scotland right now and threatening to break records set by Forrest in previous years.

Either way, the player himself has over 100 goals and assists in the colours of his boyhood club, as posted by Transfermarkt, with plenty more to come in these years to come.
