Liam Scales has discussed his close friendship with Cameron Carter-Vickers at Celtic.
As a familiar centre-back pairing, the pair’s on-pitch relationship is evident for all to see – but away from the action, they are just as close.
Carter-Vickers had been a stalwart since his initial loan in 2021, though he missed the majority of last season due to a serious Achilles injury.
In his absence, Scales was the side’s senior central defender, though the Irishman has insisted that Carter-Vickers is the best in his position in Scotland.

Scales said of Carter-Vickers after Celtic’s draw with Middlesbrough: “He’s really just a top player; he looks sharp and he looks fit.
“I’ve trained alongside him now a couple of times and I’m looking forward to playing alongside him again. He’s a great defender.

“I’d say he’s the best centre-half in the league. He’s just top level, so it’s great to have him back.
“He’s a leader on the pitch. He’s not the loudest, but the way he plays… he leads by example.
“He has certain attributes. Obviously, his physical presence is massive, and maybe we did miss that at times.
“We do loads outside of training. We’re good pals when we’re together. We spend a lot of time together in the training ground.
“We speak a lot about the football, about life outside as well… we’re very close.
“I think it comes with playing together as well. When you’re playing together, you do speak a lot about what’s going on on the pitch and what you need from each other.
“That leads to spending more time together, and you build a relationship that way. We’ve spent the majority of five years playing together or in the same dressing room.
“So we’ve had a lot of time to build that connection.”

Will Celtic sign a centre-back this summer?
On paper, Celtic don’t need a central defender unless they plan on moving one, or several, of their existing ones on.
Under O’Neill last season, Scales and Auston Trusty were the preferred pair for the vast majority of the time, though Carter-Vickers is bound to be in with a shout upon his return from injury.
Celtic have missed out on Oskar Wojcik, who had appeared to be their main defensive target, to Werder Bremen.
The names of Nobel Mendy, Michael Parker and Scott McKenna have also done the rounds.
