Liam Scales selects his five-a-side team, snubs £9m star, picks two players no longer at Celtic

Liam Scales’ rise over the last few seasons has been brilliant to see.

The 26-year-old can now call himself a senior player under Brendan Rodgers, after earning a breakthrough campaign when Celtic’s trophy-crazy manager returned in 2023.

From repping the colours of Shamrock Rovers to being out on loan at Aberdeen, Scales has played with some top-quality players during his time on the professional circuit.

But the Republic of Ireland star hasn’t played with better players than the ones he is sharing a pitch with on a weekly basis at Celtic.

Liam Scales picks Celtic heroes Kyogo Furuhashi and Joe Hart in his five-a-side team

Scales was told to pick his best five-a-side team from players he had played alongside in Scotland, and some top players were picked.

As expected, captain Callum McGregor was selected, as Cameron Carter-Vickers was the one picked in defence, including James Forrest being described as a ‘brilliant five-a-side’ player.

Interestingly enough, Scales went for Joe Hart over the club’s current keeper, Kasper Schmeichel, but in the forward areas, he snubbed fellow countryman and £9 million man Adam Idah, as well as Player of the Year, Daizen Maeda.

Instead, the departed Kyogo Furuhashi was selected, as he told Jack’s Tee Time Talks.

“I would have Callum McGregor in there,” said Scales. “Kyogo. Goals. Oh, Joe Hart (in the nets).

“And then big Cam, Carter-Vickers (at the back). Just a beast. That gives me one more? I am going to go with a winger and James Forrest. A brilliant five-a-side player. Top player.”

Kyogo’s legendary numbers for Celtic

It was a shame how Kyogo left in the winter, because he should have seen the season out, but that doesn’t hide the legendary status he built in Glasgow.

That unbelievable movement inside the penalty area, goals in cup finals, regular goals in Glasgow derbies, all in all, the Japan hitman was a joy to watch, and some more!

The only shame is that Kyogo didn’t hit 100 goals, because if he had stayed one more season, then there is no doubt he would have reached that landmark.
