Liel Abada the first Celtic star to address Jota transfer as supporters await farewell message

Liel Abada was the first Celtic player to address the departure of Jota from Celtic on Tuesday.

The Portuguese winger’s exit to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad was confirmed by Celtic hours earlier.

The statement from the club was very business like. They wished Jota well for the future without getting too sentimental about the past two seasons.

With that in mind, supporters may have turned to Instagram for their emotional dose — waiting to see if Jota or his former team-mates would have anything to say.

Late last week, Celtic stars past and present had plenty to say following Aaron Mooy’s retirement.

Things have been a good bit slower with Jota. At the time of writing on Tuesday evening, only Liel Abada had stuck his head above the parapet.

The Israel international posted an image of himself and Jota celebrating Celtic’s treble, adding the caption: “All the best bro. Love you.” (Liel Abada Instagram story)

The post was hardly War and Peace, but it did at least show that the Celtic players are aware of Jota’s departure.

Celtic supporters will now be hoping to hear from the man himself.

Jota has actually been posting on Instagram today. He shared an image of himself signing for Al-Ittihad in Dubai.

“So excited to have joined the Champions of Saudi and the biggest club in Asia,” he wrote.

“Can’t wait to meet you all in Jeddah and thank you for the warm welcome. An adventure is about to start.”

With the welcome message taken care of, we can now look forward to his inevitable goodbye to the Celtic support on the same platform.

Knowing his way with words, it is likely to be a tear-jerker.
