‘Lost their belief’ – Willie Miller spots the exact moment Celtic broke Aberdeen in Parkhead demolition

Celtic recorded their second-biggest win of the season over Aberdeen at Parkhead.

The Bhoys battered Aberdeen in the League Cup 6-0 earlier this season, but at Celtic Park last night, Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys demolished the Pittodrie club.

Jimmy Thelin’s men put up a decent battle in the first half and, in truth, probably should have gone ahead early as Celtic came out the traps slowly.

But the Hoops eventually showed their class and turned the screw slowly to record a 5-1 win over Aberdeen that left Jimmy Thelin looking broken inside Celtic Park.

But it seems there was a moment that The Dons simply gave up the ghost inside Paradise, and it didn’t leave BBC pundit and Aberdeen legend Willie Miller too pleased.

Pat Bonner slams Aberdeen players’ ‘little jog’ as Celtic hit them for five

Pat Bonner started the conversation on BBC Radio Scotland and when Celtic were 4-0 up, the former Hoops goalkeeper criticised Aberdeen for giving up.

Bonner said, “As soon as that ball’s played back 10, 15, 20 yards, you’ve got to get up [the pitch] quick.

“It’s almost like a little jog up the pitch and then the distance is really difficult for the midfielders to get anyway attached to McGregor and McCowan.

“Even Schlupps going in there now, and he’s almost becoming a second or another midfielder, and it’s so difficult for them.”

Willie Miller spots when Aberdeen ‘lost the appetite’ to compete with Celtic

Miller agreed with Bonner as he said that Aberdeen ‘lost their belief’ as he slammed one player for being ‘nowhere near it’ against Celtic.

The Aberdeen legend said, “They’ve lost the appetite for it., Aberdeen. The back four are pushing out, pushing the midfield forward.

“You know, Papa Gueye’s come on and basically jogged about in the midfield area and done nothing to close Celtic down. He’s been nowhere near it.

“The problem is Aberdeen are not doing anything to disrupt them or disturb their patterns of play. They’ve lost all their energy as well.

“It looks as though they’ve lost their belief. I don’t see anything from the fullbacks now, and they’ve done the polar opposite from what they were doing in the first half.”

Celtic remained unbeaten against Aberdeen, who at one stage, looked like they were going to steal second place in the league from Rangers.

For Brendan Rodgers, the task next is a tricky away trip to St Mirren to face a Stephen Robinson side who are buoyed after beating Rangers at Ibrox last weekend.
